How Do We Teach Children – “Why there are no nuns @ St. Peter’s Church?”

(As seen in the bulletin January 27, 2019)

While women religious used to serve as teachers in our school, that hasn’t been the case for a good number of years due to the decline in numbers of women religious along with advanced average ages.  However, we are blessed with Sr. Janet Heder SSSF in our community; as retired religious she was caretaker for her brother while helping with school art classes and projects; she now lectors, helps as a  rosary leader, participates in group bible and book studies as well as sewing for the missions.  Sr. Margaret Held OSF grew up in Slinger, went to school here, and was murdered while serving a poor county as a mission worker in the southern USA; she was truly saintly.  There are several young women from the parish in the process of actively associating themselves in the religious life and communities: Sr. M. Faustina (former Rachel Yank) associated with the Schoenstaat Sisters of Mary in Waukesha since 2010 and is nearing her final promises; Sr. Alena Marie (former Megan Carl) is in her 2nd year of novitiate and hopefully will take first vows as a Missionary of Charity in December this year.
